Resorts and Recreation
The world is filled with amazing places. Mountains and canyons, deserts and oceans. These are places to recreate, to recharge, to relax and even to retire. The lawyers in the Resorts and Recreation Group of Parsons Behle & Latimer live and work with a passion for these places. Whether it is first tracks on a big powder day, teeing off at first light on a desert course or simply touring the national parks, we love it. We bring this enthusiasm to legal representation of ski resorts, golf courses, and all sorts of other clients who are working to bring leisure, sports and outdoor recreational experiences to people. We have both the expertise and the experience that clients in the resort and outdoor products industries require to meet their often ambitious goals. As detailed below, we have helped many such clients meet those goals. When we have helped you in the same way, we ask only to be able to celebrate with you on top of whatever mountain is nearby.
Our practice focuses on five inter-related key areas:
Mountain Ski Resorts
Resort developers and operators have a common set of needs and issues. Our group is organized to provide the full complement of services you may need. From property acquisition, financing and deal structuring; project development; use plans, permitting, product structures; public land, federal land exchanges, NEPA compliance and development of forest plans for operations within the National Forest; sales and marketing; management and operations; employment, water use, energy, litigation and restructuring, PBL has the industry knowledge and experience to resolve your issues.
For ski resort operations occurring on public lands within the National Forest system, we can assist resorts in compliance with the myriad and complex environmental regulatory statutes that apply to these operations. Further, many resorts in the West contain historic mining properties and mining claims. Our attorneys are skilled in matters involving mineral title and consolidation of multiple mineral claims and patents, allowing ski resorts to consolidate private inholdings and, if necessary, exchange these parcels for National Forest lands through negotiated land exchanges.
