International, National, and Local Energy Experience

We excel at acquiring commodities and developing infrastructure.

Parsons Behle & Latimer’s attorneys have provided intelligent solutions to complex energy law matters for more than 100 years throughout the United States and the world. Our energy attorneys represent many of the world’s largest mining, manufacturing, and commercial entities as well as municipalities, power associations, independent power producers, transmission developers, renewable, and co-generation entities in developing and acquiring energy and the associated infrastructure. We provide legal counsel and representation in regulatory, project finance and development, litigation, and policy areas.

In regulated environments, we represent clients in rate cases, rulemakings, certificate proceedings, and investigations. Also, we seek and obtain favorable tariff and rate schedule terms and conditions, and we defend against rate increases and obtain rate decreases for municipal, industrial, and commercial energy customers.

In de-regulated environments, we assist clients with purchasing commodity, hedging, and FERC reporting.

For project finance, we participate in the negotiation and preparation of debt and equity financing arrangements for funding our clients’ projects. We also help our clients identify tax and other government incentives, and work through the regulatory process with our clients to obtain those benefits whenever possible.

For development matters, we negotiate natural gas and power supply and infrastructure construction and development agreements, including distribution, transmission, and interconnection agreements in both regulated and deregulated markets around the world. Additionally, we deal with issues for customers entering power purchasing markets; negotiate terms and conditions relating to co-generation projects; and assist energy developers, including Utah’s largest wind farm, with issues such as organizational structure, financing, permitting and licensing, contract negotiation, and operational issues.

For litigation matters, we represent industries and suppliers in civil and criminal investigations before municipal councils, agencies, and other governmental bodies. Also, we litigate energy supply contracts and construction contracts and defend against stray voltage claims.

For policy matters, we lobby before state and federal legislative and regulatory bodies.
