Become an Estate Planning Client

We work with our clients to design a personalized plan that will meet their needs not only for today but in the years to come. Our clients are motivated to provide the best possible planning for their families to minimize the burdens of incapacity and death. They are seeking the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they have the most comprehensive estate plan possible.

At Parsons Behle & Latimer, we begin with the premise that every estate, regardless of size, is important. After all, your estate, no matter how large or small, is everything that you have spent your life accumulating. We understand that you want to preserve it from unnecessary taxes and administrative fees and want to pass it to your loved ones in a way that blesses their lives and preserves your values.

Our comprehensive process incorporates a minimum of three meetings. We charge no fees for these meetings:

  • Initial Meeting—At the initial meeting, we will learn about you and your loved ones and briefly review your assets. At this meeting you will do most of the talking; we listen closely so that you can teach us about your family and what is important to you. After you have taught us about your family, we will explain how the estate planning laws operate in Idaho, what your options are, and the costs for each of those options. If you choose to proceed with your planning, we will schedule a design meeting.

  • Design Meeting—At the design meeting, we will concentrate on creating your estate plan, a plan custom-designed for your unique situation, a plan that meets your specific needs and goals. At the end of this meeting, we will be able to give you a firm quote for the full price of the plan we have created together.

  • Signing Meeting–Approximately four weeks after the design meeting, we will schedule the signing meeting. At this time we will have prepared your estate plan, and we will review it with you in detail, carefully explaining each document and how the documents work together to accomplish your goals. If the plan meets with your approval, you may sign the documents and put your plan to work for you.

  • Review Meeting – Approximately 3 to 6 months after signing, we schedule the review meeting. At this time we review the funding to make sure all the assets have been transferred into your trust and review the provisions of your plan to make sure it is working for you. We want to make sure you are comfortable with the plan and that it fully meets your needs.

Perhaps most importantly, we offer our clients the ability to update their plans annually. As part of our LifePlan Maintenance Program, we offer you a system to revisit your goals and objectives, your assets, and your choices for the important people in your plan. This allows us to help you keep your plan up-to-date based on changes in your life as well as changes in the lives of your loved ones and changes in the law. By taking advantage of this program, you can make sure your plan does not become "stale" and will produce the results you intended 10, 20, or 50 years in the future.
