Michael is a shareholder in the firm's litigation department, specializing in real estate litigation and general civil litigation. He also maintains a practice in Utah liquor licensing.

In the area of real estate litigation, Michael handles a broad array of disputes involving various subject matters including breach of real estate contracts, liens enforcement and defense, easements, boundary disputes, partitions, fraudulent transfers, nuisance, trespass and commercial and residential landlord/tenant disputes. He is also a general commercial litigator, having litigated numerous general civil litigation matters involving a wide range of issues including breach of contract, unfair trade practices, unjust enrichment, fraud/misrepresentation, misappropriation of confidential and trade secret information, executive compensation and termination, breach of fiduciary duties and other torts. Michael has most recently developed expertise litigating high-value trust and estate disputes. He has served as the first and second chair in numerous bench and jury trials in multiple forums (state and federal) and has successfully briefed and argued appeals before a variety of courts including the Utah Supreme Court and the Utah Court of Appeals. He has also assisted numerous clients in obtaining restaurant or club licenses from the Utah Department of Alcohol Beverage Control and provides general legal advice to his small and mid-sized business clients.

Michael served on the firm's board of directors from 2012 to 2019. Prior to his board election in January 2012, he served as the practice group leader of the firm’s Real Estate Litigation practice group and on the firm’s recruiting committee. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law and previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Stephen H. Anderson on the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Michael is active in the community, currently serving on the board of directors for the United Way. He previously served on the board of trustees for the Utah Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (which he chaired from 2014-2016), on the board of trustees for the Elyse Pantke White Foundation, as chair of the Litigation Section of the Utah State Bar, chair of the Salt Lake CAP Head Start Advisory Board, on the University of Utah Young Alumni Board and as co-chair of the Utah State Bar Annual Meeting Program Committee. He became a 2008 alumni of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce’s “Leadership Utah.”
