Parsons Behle & Latimer (Parsons) is pleased to announce that Parsons’ attorney Alexander Sun Chang was chosen as the recipient of the Utah State Bar’s 2024 Pro Bono Publico Award for Young Lawyer of the Year. Chang was selected for the award for his extensive volunteer work on the Pro Se Debt Collection Calendar, including 30 hours of pro bono debtor counseling in collection matters. Chang walked individuals who sought to represent themselves in litigation or debt negotiation through the legal process to prepare them for court.

According to the Utah State Bar, the Pro Bono Publico Awards recognize those who have provided or enabled the direct provision of legal services, free of charge, for Utah’s most vulnerable citizens, including people living in poverty, individuals with disabilities, veterans, seniors, minorities, self-represented people and victims of domestic violence.

Chang is a bankruptcy and estate planning attorney at Parsons, focused on helping individuals and corporations through commercial and trust litigation. His practice also has an emphasis on navigating complex asset protection trusts and legal issues surrounding the use of generative artificial intelligence.

“When I volunteer to guide indigent individuals through this process, I feel their faith and gratitude, not only in my services, but in the judicial system we maintain for the benefit of society. It is a wonderful feeling to be trusted and valued for our work,” Chang says.

This is the second year running that a Parsons’ associate attorney has been recognized as Young Lawyer of the Year by the Utah State Bar for his or her pro bono work. Parsons commends Chang for his dedication to providing access to justice for Utahans.
