On Nov. 15 at its annual gala luncheon, the Utah Minority Bar Association (UMBA) honored Parsons Behle & Latimer (Parsons) for being the top donor of the UMBA’s Juneteenth celebration. During the UMBA Juneteenth campaign, Parsons raised more than $21,285 of the total $26, 490 raised by all Utah law firms. The donations went to support Comunidad Materna en Utah (CMU) a charity dedicated to empowering expectant mothers and their families, 90% of whom are migrants from Latin America living in Salt Lake and Millard counties. CMU provides comprehensive support and guidance throughout the journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Parsons’ Attorneys of Color Affinity Group President Jazmynn B. Pok says, “We are so proud to be an ongoing sponsor of the UMBA. The mentorship and leadership opportunities they provide for minorities in our legal community is critical, and their support of and contributions to organizations like CMU is often life-changing for recipients. I applaud all the attorneys who dedicate their time and skills to assist the UMBA and thank my colleagues for their generosity and acts of caring.”

In 2023, Parsons supported the UMBA’s Juneteenth campaign to raise funds for No More a Stranger (NOMAS) a 501(c)(3) organization that advocates for, and provides legal services to, low-income individuals of immigrant, migrant, and refugee backgrounds. Parsons was, again, the top donor — raising $11,793 for NOMAS of the total $25,223 donated by all Utah law firms.

Parsons’ winning streak began in 2022 when Parsons supported the UMBA’s Juneteenth campaign to raise funds for Clean Slate Utah. Parsons became the top donor — raising $6,272 for Clean Slate Utah out of the $21,152 donated by all Utah law firms. Parsons’ success in the Juneteenth Campaign is led by members of the Attorneys of Color Affinity Group, in particular Andres Morelli, Alex Vandiver, and Abby Dizon-Maughan, each of whom dedicate tremendous time and effort to the UMBA.

Gala activities included award presentations to Parsons and other recipients; scholarship awards to recipients; and a musical performance as well as a memorial to the late Judge Raymond Uno.
