Erik A. Christiansen
, commercial litigation attorney and Parsons Behle & Latimer shareholder, has been elected as 2020/2021 chair of the Utah State Bar Litigation Section. During 2019, Christiansen served as the section’s chair elect. Officers of the Litigation Section, and the Litigation Section as a whole, help advance access to justice, preservation of the rule of law and increasing diversity in the legal profession. The Litigation Section is the largest section in the Utah State Bar. Each year, it offers multiple continuing legal education (CLE) seminars and other professional events, including the Trial Academy, to foster these values. Presently, Erik is also the co-chair of the Utah State Bar Regulatory Committee and an ex officio member of the Utah State Bar Commission. He previously served as the chair of the Utah State Bar Securities Section and chair of the Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Christiansen says, “I believe that lawyers have an obligation to be of service to the profession and to safeguard and protect the rule of law, work to improve access to justice and to promote diversity within the Legal Profession.  Bar service is a great way to help promote these values which are the touchstones of our profession.” 

Christiansen has also been involved for many years with the American Bar Association (ABA), and on June 3, 2020, was appointed to the leadership position of Member of the ABA’s Litigation Section Membership & Marketing Committee for 2020-21. Currently, Christiansen is also the Utah State Bar Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates and ABA State Membership Chair. On June 3, 2020, he was reappointed as co-editor of the ABA’s “Litigation News” publication.

Christiansen is an experienced commercial litigator at Parsons Behle & Latimer, an active community member and an adjunct professor at the S.J. Quinney School of Law at the University of Utah.
