Lane Chitwood concentrates his practice on intellectual property and technology transactions. He enjoys assisting start-ups and established companies of many sizes, from a range of technology-related sectors, with pragmatic and cost-efficient legal support.
Lane regularly drafts and negotiates agreements at the intersection of IP and commercial transactions. He often works closely with client procurement or sales representatives on IP license agreements - including for software, SaaS, and manufacturing engagements - as well as professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements and general commercial transactions. Lane also has experience supporting IP-intensive deals such as patent cross-licenses, collaborative development agreements, and technology-focused mergers and acquisitions.
Previously Lane worked for nearly seven years as in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 company, serving as embedded licensing counsel to business units, each earning quarterly revenues of more than $1 billion. When advising business leaders, Lane prioritizes careful communication to mitigate risk while achieving business objectives.
Lane also represents his clients in related matters, such as in connection with intellectual property disputes, memberships in standard-setting organizations and consortia, corporate policies and employment forms, and trademark portfolio management and licensing.
