Parsons Behle & Latimer is seeking a water law | real estate attorney with at least 3-5 years of experience to join the Environmental, Energy, and Natural Resources Department in the Salt Lake City office. Candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered. Parsons is a regional law firm headquartered in Salt Lake City that has national expertise in numerous practice areas. The firm is at the forefront of the legal communities in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming and the Intermountain Region.

Requirements:
Water Law
- Prepare and file applications and requests with the Utah State Engineer
- Participate in adjudicative proceedings before the Utah State Engineer
- Support water-related litigation through research and drafting briefs
- Prepare and defend claims in water right general adjudications
- Advise clients regarding management and use of water rights
- Assist with water transactions, including conducting due diligence, valuing water rights, and drafting purchase and sale agreements and leases
- Advise regarding construction and real estate agreements related to water infrastructure projects
Real Estate
- Assist with real property transactions, including drafting purchase and sale agreements
- Counsel clients in real estate matters
- Assist clients with securing land use approvals and entitlements for development projects
- Draft purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and other real estate documents
- Advise clients regarding buying, selling, leasing, developing, or financing real estate properties
- Review contracts, negotiate deals, review title commitments and surveys, handle property disputes, and ensure compliance with zoning and land-use regulations
- Ability to assist with the closing process, including preparation and review of closing documents
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Utah water law is highly desirable; however, experience in related legal fields will be considered favorably (e.g., other state water law, real estate, public lands, environmental, or litigation)
- Broad experience in commercial real estate and land use planning
- Experience with laws applicable to Utah political subdivisions, including the Administrative Procedures Act, Open and Public Meetings Act, and laws applicable to municipalities, counties, districts, and interlocal entities
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to perform complex work with accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Strong problem solving, strategic and analytical capability
- Highly motivated, goal-oriented person who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice in Utah or ability to be admitted on motion
