Abigail M. Dizon Maughan

Parsons Behle & Latimer (Parsons) attorney Abigail Dizon-Maughan has been honored by Living Color Utah and Utah Business Magazine as a winner of the 2022 Living Color Awards, specifically in the area of Community Involvement. Parsons commends Dizon-Maughan for her tireless work to acknowledge and support people of color in the community and thanks her for her efforts within Parsons to create inclusion and celebrate our diversity. Utah Business Magazine conferred the award on honorees who they say are working toward a more equitable and inclusive future for the state of Utah.

Dizon-Maughan is a Utah native of Filipino-Chinese descent and an associate attorney at Parsons. She is an experienced litigator, highly regarded by her peers and honored by the Utah State Bar, who advocates for diverse groups within the community. She represents clients in complex business and commercial litigation as well as plaintiff’s medical malpractice. She says, “I am truly humbled to be recognized among this class of awardees and honorees. Their commitment to the community reminds me that there is much work to be done and that when we all do it together and with the common goal of uplifting each other, the burden is lightened.”

In addition to advocating for clients, Dizon-Maughan serves as the chairperson for the Professional Standards Review Board of the West Valley Police Department; is the Chairperson of the Criminal Justice Committee of the NAACP - Salt Lake Branch; and is a former president of the Utah Minority Bar Association. She also serves on several boards of the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion and is a member of Women Lawyers of Utah and the Salt Lake County Bar Association.

Shawn C. Ferrin, Parsons’ chairperson and CEO says, “Abby is a force for good in our community. She dedicates countless hours to bringing people in our community together to foster understanding, inclusion and to pursue justice. Last year, as a new attorney at Parsons, Abby immediately turned her attention to creating our Attorney of Color affinity group with the goal of creating a path to leadership, both within and outside the firm. Her energy and drive seem limitless in these pursuits. We can’t imagine a more deserving person for this award.”

Dizon-Maughan says the past and the future – particularly her children – drive her to be an advocate. The past so she can continue to build on the foundations laid for people of color by their predecessor warriors and the future so that her children and the others of their generation don’t have to face the types of adversity she faces, and continues to battle, in her professional and personal life. Dizon-Maughan says, “It is important for others to be advocates because ‘the work’ can be done on so many fronts. We all have talents and skills that we can share with members of our community to uplift each other. In my mind, it is a waste of those talents and skills if we can’t and don’t use them to improve our communities.”
