Parsons Behle & Latimer, a preeminent law firm in the Intermountain West, has named Ashley C. Nikkel as its new Reno office managing shareholder. Nikkel is the first woman attorney to lead Parsons’ Reno office since it opened in 2006. She is also one of the few attorneys in Nevada who counsels and litigates for some of the largest mining companies in the world – companies that deeply affect Nevada’s economy. She is actively involved in permitting and policy issues impacting land use in Nevada at both the local and national level.

Nikkel says, “I am humbled to be elevated to managing shareholder at Parsons, a firm with no shortage of excellent leaders. I look forward to guiding the Reno office’s growth and direction in the coming years while continuing to collaborate with my brilliant coworkers and incredible clients.”

Applying the same passion with which she represents her clients, Ashley gives back to the Reno and Northern Nevada communities as both a role model and mentor.

While attending the University of Nevada, Reno, this Truckee native began volunteer coaching for the Center for Civic Education’s “We the People” program at Incline High School. Since then, she has mentored almost two decades’ worth of nationally ranked teams. Passionate about civic education across the state, Ashley has also served on the Nevada Center for Civic Engagement’s board of directors, and most recently, its executive committee. “We the People” offers opportunities for students in elementary, middle and high schools to participate in mock Congressional hearings on contemporary constitutional issues.

Nikkel attended the William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas, Nevada and has been recognized professionally by Best Lawyers in America, Mountain States Super Lawyers and as a “Nevada Legal Elite.” She regularly presents on environmental permitting and mining law issues at industry events hosted by the Nevada Mining Association, the American Exploration and Mining Association and others.

Michael R. Kealy, the previous Reno office managing shareholder and its senior litigation attorney says, “Ashley Nikkel is powerful attorney who represents some of Parson Behle & Latimer’s biggest clients in complex, high stakes matters. She has helped to build the next generation of lawyers in the firm’s Nevada office. Her collaborative, inclusive approach has demonstrated her strength as a leader. We are both proud and fortunate to have Ashley as the new managing shareholder of our Nevada office.”
